2012 Rochester Wrestling Golf Tournament
All city golf tournament fund-raiser has been scheduled. High School wrestlers are expected to help out (as in past years).
The Mayo Wrestling Association will host an alumni night on Thursday, December 22. Coach Art Trimble invites all former Spartan wrestlers, coaches, and managers to attend this exciting matchup between the Mayo Spartans and the Albert Lea Tigers. This matchup features seven wrestlers ranked in the top ten in AAA wrestling, by the Guillotine. It promises to be an exciting night of wrestling!
All Mayo wrestling alumni will be honored between the junior varsity and the varsity duals. The junior varsity action will begin at 6 pm and the varsity wrestling showcase should start up at about 7 pm.
Please stay after the dual for a social in the cafeteria for all wrestlers, past and present, and their families, volunteers and friends of Mayo Wrestling.
Captains Practice is an informal practice run by the team captains to give wrestlers a chance to get a head-start on the wrestling season. It’s completely optional and runs from after school until 5ish.
Also a reminder that registration for wrestling is 11/15 from 8 to 3:30 in the registration office. Registration forms are online at:
http://www.rochester.k12.mn.us/school109/genie340/images/files/registration_forms_2011-2012.pdf
Athletes also need a physical every 3 years so you may want to schedule one with your family doctor soon if it’s your first year out for high school sports or it’s been 3 years since your last one.
There’s a pre-season tournament at Luther College in Decorah on 11/5. Last year Brady, Marcus, Devon and Miles went down and had a great pre-season warm up. I’ve posted the entry form somewhere on here. Reply here if you’re interested in going and car-pooling.

Getting ready to wrestle
Friday morning, the second full day at camp. The guys bounced out of bed early this morning and ate breakfast before the other teams got up. They are back in their rooms resting before 90 miutes of team building exercises and then a hour of ”Train like a Norseman” conditioning.
The team building exercises are things like weaving through a marked-out course blindfolded while the rest of the team gives directions. Today we have a game called “noodle wars” where the kids stand on buckets and hit the opposing team with stryrofoam tubes.
After games and traing, we’ll wrestle two more teams, Dewitt, IA and Clear Lake IA. We’re 2-3 so far (including a 1 pt loss) which is pretty good considering the level of competition here. The duals are set up by the coaches by pairing up kids based on age, weight, and experience. Marcus, Brady, Zach, and Loren have all faced a bunch of state qualifiers. Brady, Sam, and Jose all have 4 wins so far. Miles, Jake, & Jason also have winning records for the camp.
Kyle Orwoll got one of the “campers of the day” awards yesterday for his agressiveness on the mat. He’s been on a mission this week and has really impressed everyone.
As far as kids being dinged up, Jake has badly sunburned thighs and sat out a couple matches. Donovan has some sore ribs and also sat out two duals. Nolan is wrestling with a couple stitches in his hand (that he came to camp with) and Kyle threw up after his first match. The guys were tired last night and sat around together in one room BS’ing until lights out.
Art & I have been very impressed and proud at how well behaved this bunch is. Everyone has been polite and respectful and has acted very mature.
I’ll be posting more pictures on facebook throughout the day.
